What is Keto?
Keto (short for Ketogenic) is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that forces your body to use fat for energy resulting in weight loss.
Eating foods high in carbohydrates make your body produce glucose. Glucose is then used as energy for your body. If your body does not have any use for the glucose, it is converted into glycogen and stored in the liver and muscles as an energy reserve. If your body has more glucose than it can use as energy, or convert to glycogen for storage, the excess is converted to fat.
Unless you’re regularly active, eating foods high in carbohydrates everyday usually means A LOT of glucose converted into A LOT of fat.
Ketosis is a metabolic state where the body uses ketones for energy instead of glucose. Ketones are produced in the liver by breaking down fats when the liver runs out of glucose. The less glucose in your body the more ketones will be used as energy and the more fat you will lose.
